About Me

My name is Petra Redinger. I was born and raised in Southern Germany and lived in Africa and several European countries before moving to the US in 1999 where I earned a Master of Arts Degree in English and French, and a Bachelor and Master of Science Degree in Biology, and in 2024, a Degree in Pedagogy.
I have been teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology, and General Biology for several Universities and Colleges in the US for 20 years. From 2007-2011, I worked as full time, tenure track faculty, where I taught Human Anatomy and Physiology and Cell Biology. After I became a Mom to my daughter Stella, I transitioned into working as an adjunct faculty and tutor at Portland Community College, Clark College, and the University of Portland, and I joined the team of instructors at Sumner College, a Nursing College, in Spring term 2023.
I currently teach online and in person at Sumner College in Portland, Oregon, as well as online and in the cadaver laboratory at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. I teach and tutor students in Anatomy and Physiology, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Medical Terminology, Pathophysiology and General Biology. I have also taught middle school and high school biology at my local school district, so I am well versed in teaching and tutoring students of all ages.

I feel very lucky to be an instructor at such a variety of institutions with such an amazing diversity of students who come from all backgrounds and walks of life. Needless to say, I have a big passion for teaching, and I truly care about my students.

Over the years of teaching, and in our more online centered learning environments, I noticed that students struggle in certain subjects and that they need help mastering study techniques and also understanding difficult concepts, prep for testing, and cope with academic pressure. This is where I come in as your tutor :) Not only am I a skilled, supportive and professional tutor, I am also a Mom to a now teenager, and I understand that 'doing it all' is challenging, so I'm here to help you find balance, support, and success in your or your child's learning, test prep, or struggles to stay academically afloat.
In my free time, I love to spend time with my 14-year-old daughter and our dog and two cats. We enjoy thrifting and being active outdoors. Some activities include hiking, paddle boarding, kayaking, running and swimming. I also enjoy some indoor sports, cooking (and eating good food) and photography, and spending meaningful time with family and friends. I love to travel and learn about other cultures and their food and traditions.

All in all, I believe in spreading kindness and positive energy, and feel lucky that I get to do that as a teacher, mentor, and hopefully your tutor.
